Producción CientíficaThe switching dynamics of TiN/Ti/HfO2/W-based resistive memories is investigated. The analysis consisted in the systematic application of voltage sweeps with different ramp rates and temperatures. The obtained results give clear insight into the role played by transient and thermal effects on the device operation. Both kinetic Monte Carlo simulations and a compact modeling approach based on the Dynamic Memdiode Model are considered in this work with the aim of assessing, in terms of their respective scopes, the nature of the physical processes that characterize the formation and rupture of the filamentary conducting channel spanning the oxide film. As a result of this study, a better understanding of the different facets of the resistive switching dynamics is achieved. It is shown that the temperature and, mainly, the applied electric field, control the switching mechanism of our devices. The Dynamic Memdiode Model, being a behavioral analytic approach, is shown to be particularly suitable for reproducing the conduction characteristics of our devices using a single set of parameters for the different operation regimes.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación de España - FEDER [PID2022-139586NB-C41, PID2022-139586NB-C42, PID2022-139586NB-C43, PID2022-139586NB-C44]Consejería de Conocimiento, Investigación y Universidad, Junta de Andalucía [B-TIC-624-UGR20]Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC)- FEDER [20225AT012]Ramón y Cajal grant number RYC2020-030150-IEuropean project MEMQuD (code 20FUN06) which has received funding from the EMPIR programme co-financed by the Participating States and from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme

Prioritizing persons deprived of liberty in global guidelines for tuberculosis preventive treatment

Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are disproportionately impacted by tuberculosis, with high incidence rates and often limited access to diagnostics, treatment, and preventive measures. The World Health Organization (WHO) expanded its recommendations for tuberculosis preventive treatment (TPT) to many high-risk populations, but their guidance does not include PDL, and most low- and middle-income countries do not routinely provide edforthoseusedthroughoutthetext TPT in prisons. :Pleaseverifythatallentriesarecorrectlyabbreviated: Recent studies demonstrate high acceptability and completion rates of short-course TPT regimens in jails and prisons; costs of these regimens have been markedly reduced through international agreements, making this an opportune for further expanding their use. We argue that PDL should be a priority group for TPT in national guidelines and discuss implementation considerations and resource needs for TPT programs in carceral facilities. Scaling access to TPT for PDL is important for reducing disease and transmission in this population; it is also critical to advancing an equitable response to tuberculosis

Integrative multi-omics analysis identifies a prognostic miRNA signature and a targetable miR-21-3p/TSC2/ mTOR axis in metastatic pheochromocytoma/ paraganglioma

Rationale: Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors that present variable outcomes. To date, no effective therapies or reliable prognostic markers are available for patients who develop metastatic PPGL (mPPGL). Our aim was to discover robust prognostic markers validated through in vitro models, and define specific therapeutic options according to tumor genomic features. Methods: We analyzed three PPGL miRNome datasets (n=443), validated candidate markers and assessed them in serum samples (n=36) to find a metastatic miRNA signature. An integrative study of miRNome, transcriptome and proteome was performed to find miRNA targets, which were further characterized in vitro. Results: A signature of six miRNAs (miR-21-3p, miR-183-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-96-5p, miR-551b-3p, and miR-202-5p) was associated with metastatic risk and time to progression. A higher expression of five of these miRNAs was also detected in PPGL patients’ liquid biopsies compared with controls. The combined expression of miR-21-3p/miR-183-5p showed the best power to predict metastasis (AUC=0.804, P=4.67·10-18), and was found associated in vitro with pro-metastatic features, such as neuroendocrine-mesenchymal transition phenotype, and increased cell migration rate. A pan-cancer multi-omic integrative study correlated miR-21-3p levels with TSC2 expression, mTOR pathway activation, and a predictive signature for mTOR inhibitor-sensitivity in PPGLs and other cancers. Likewise, we demonstrated in vitro a TSC2 repression and an enhanced rapamycin sensitivity upon miR-21-3p expression. Conclusions: Our findings support the assessment of miR-21-3p/miR-183-5p, in tumors and liquid biopsies, as biomarkers for risk stratification to improve the PPGL patients’ management. We propose miR-21-3p to select mPPGL patients who may benefit from mTOR inhibitors

Por fim, o bootstrapping e a análise de risco fornecem maior segurança aos resultados encontrados.<br>The object of this study is the environmental park "Chico Mendes" located in Rio Branco - Acre. Being unique and all-enclosing in its nature it is a public asset. The contingent valuation makes possible the determination of the total economic value total of a public asset. The people's willingness to pay for the park maintenance and conservation shows a determination of the consumers' preference. This work attempts to determine the total economic value of the park. The results show that family income, value of monthly contribution, sex and age explain the probability of a person to contribute to the park conservation. Finally, bootstrapping and risk analysis provide greater safety to the results found
